Phase Current Analysis

Three identical 2 pole squirrel cage motors rated at 4MW having phase current analysis carried out on them as part of a CBM program.

Taken from a Water Injection Pump and shows a clean line frequency with no evidence of side band activity.

Taken from a different Water Injection Pump and shows side bands modulated at 2x slip frequency. The levels of the side band activity are below the alarms.

Taken from a Gas Compressor motor which is running at a much lower load that the two previous examples. It can be seen that the side bands are present at a low level and that the slip frequency is lower as a result of the lower load.

All three motors were in current operation and the recommendation was a six monthly check on the second example and yearly checks on the other two.
